bad weekend--but it could have been MUCH worse!

Discussion on body issues/mods, appearance, interior/trim, and detailing (i.e. how to keep your car looking showroom new, or a reasonable facsimile thereof...).

bad weekend--but it could have been MUCH worse!

Post by Navy Lifer »

Wife uses the PPV as daily driver. A little bad luck came calling on Saturday--a very busy weekend, and a bad stretch of Georgia State Highway 20, just east of I-575 in Canton.

While I don't know all of the details (I am presently in the San Diego area and will be through December), it appears a PT Cruiser rear-ended the Caprice at relatively low speed--wife says the female driving the other car said she "looked down at her gas gauge".....yeah, right.

No police report, and fortunately the offending party DOES have insurance, so I hope nothing goes south with resolution--no doubt the other car was at fault, but it wouldn't surprise me that there is some effort to weasel out of responsibility, or to somehow partially put blame elsewhere, including on my wife.

Car was driven home (less than 2 miles away). Yesterday (Sunday) novadeuce (Scott Walker) came and took the car home with him, and today the car was taken to Jim Ellis Collision Center in Atlanta--JE is the dealer where the car was purchased, and I just felt like I wanted that extra leverage should there be a problem with the repair.

Our insurance is USAA, other party is Nationwide, and while I'm not expecting any problems, being away from this does give me some concern, and I'm counting on Scott to be my eyes and ears as the process goes forward.

Here are some pictures--bumper cover is the main visible damage, and it remains to be seen what else is wrong.

I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago!

Be sure they know your paint code! Glad it wasn't any worse, and your wife didnt get hurt!

The people that hit me refused to respond to their and my insurance companies. My insurance determined they were 100% to blame... their insurance refused to do anything until they heard from their insured. My insurance is going after their insurance now...

Now I'm just waiting to see if I will ever get my deductable back...

Later!

Bill,
I am glad that your wife was not hurt. Could have been worse. Good thing it happened close to home and friends were able to help out. Hope your lower diffuser is not damaged also.

Regards,

Maurice

Bill,

I'm glad your wife wasn't injured. I hope you can get it repaired to your satisfaction. Car insurance companies are a pain to deal with these days. Damned if you, damned if you don't.

You could always buy mine, I'm not in love with anything! Right color, too!

I will add I'm glad your wife is okay and for four grand the car had better be good as new.

Mine was a whole lot worse than yours before you ever saw the car so I would not be concerned about it being fixed right. You can't even tell where mine was damaged.

Well, the final cost has jumped another $2K for a "center muffler"--and I'll assume a couple of other things they found as part of the rear bumper system, which the dealer is waiting for approval (from insurance) to replace.

http://www.tonkinonlineparts.com/p/Chev ... 19628.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

As I'm not there, I can't get as involved as I would if I was--possibly I should ask if it would be OK to use an aftermarket system in place of the OE part--anyone have any experience with that approach? That would get me at least part of a "performance" system, such as a Kook's cat-back setup (if they make one)!

Maybe I should talk to Kook's tomorrow......!!!! Wonder what I can get from them for $1788.00?
