2012 mercury mariner center console

Post by OldCaprice14 »

I took some measurements of a friends 2010 explorer limited center console, it looked like it would fit nice after some trimming. But I couldn't find one at a reasonable price online. I found a complete 2012 mariner center console with frame for about $100 on ebay. When it arrived, holy hell it was bigger than I thought. (I didn't measure a Mariner) I cut the bottom section off to shorten it, then cut it some more. I cut the front 5 or so inches off to take its length down also. I painted the top of the console with "Rust-Oleum Universal Metallic Paint & Primer in One Spray Paint - 353091, 11oz., Gunmetal Gray". It matches the gray painted dash trim very nicely. It has 2 cup holders for the rear seat occupants, and 2 cup holders for the front seats, a couple of cubby storage spots and a rear 12 volt plug. I ran the USB into the bottom of the console. I got PU leather material, upholstery foam and 1/16 thick abs plastic and made trim panels for the bottom of the console, extending far forward into the footwell area, to tie everything together. The foam adds a nice padded feel when you rest your leg against the console. I cut the dash trim bezel to bring in the sides so they wouldn't stick out square the way they do.

Added more pictures. Showing where I cut the dash trim to bring it in flush. And other views of the console. You can also see the Jaguar XJS ashtray I installed into the dash trim.

The 2 extra cup holders are from the police console and take up the gear selector hole nicely until I can get a center shift installed.

Interesting fit! True example of thinking outside the GM box!
