Rear seatbelt latch broken

Post by Lentzjj »

So i have a spare front seatbelt latch and a broken rear. Is there anyway to change the metal bracket that goes into the buckle?

If I understand the question, the answer is NO , not without changing the whole belt as the clip is sown into the belt itself. I would not trust it any other way for safety reasons.
How on earth did you break one of those anyway?

If you remove the retractor and pull all the belt material out you will see how it connects to the retractor. YOu have to remove the belt from the retractor but the key is not letting the retractor retract. figure a way to lock it into place. Then you just slide off the latch and install new one (make sure it actually works in the buckle - might be different front to rear). Sliding it off will be hard as the belt material is usually doubled up and sewn at the end so it's tough to get through the latches gap.

If you find it too difficult you could mail them to one of the services that rebuild seat belts they could probably swap it out for you for like $50.

Sweet! Thanks, Steve. I don't think I'll need them for the Caprice, but I do have a couple of retractors on older cars that could use a rebuild.
