SS Rear Seats??

Post by ManBearPig »

Eventually id like to upgrade to SS front seats, but has anyone tried to install rear seats? And are there differences between the 11-13 and 14-17 caprices as far as seats installations go.

Soooo, Has anyone tried, or does anyone know if REAR Chevrolet SS seats are a direct fit like the G8’s or if they can work with a few mods, or are just not gonna work.

If i am missing something that has already been posted please let me know. I havent found anything yet in my search for this answer.

Someone tried G8 in a 2014 and didn't work, whereas it should work in a 2011-2013. As for how much work it would take to fit (SS into a 2011-2013)? Can't speak to that.

Also I have better luck searching this site using google:

"ss rear seat site:www.newcaprice.com"
2012 Caprice
2008 CVPI

I thought i read in a post that g8s rears fit all of them, but that was a while ago.

Thank you for the clarification. I really apreciate it.

G8 rears definitely work perfectly in a 2012 Caprice.

G8 seats are not a direct fit for 2014-2017 cars. I would be willing to bet a PF48 oil filter that the SS seats are a direct drop in to 2014-2017 cars but I don't know for sure as I've never tried an SS seat. There was only minor differences between the lower seat cushion of the 11-13 and 14-17 cars. That's being said, I have a rear seat for sale from a G8 GT. Black cloth with the fold down center section. It will work just fine in a 2011-2013 car. I have found in other aspects as well the G8s share more with the 11-13 cars and the SS shares more with the 14-17 Caprice.

I know this is an OLD thread, but, since I just did this, I figured I'd toss my 2 cents in.....

I ordered a set of 2015 SS seats from a junk yard, oops, "AUTO RECYCLING CENTER"......

DAMN, shipping is EXPENSIVE....

The back seat's are a perfect fit....

With one minor exception. There are 4 13mm nuts that hold the seat back in place. The SS Seat Back comes in three pieces. The Center piece dropped right in on my car. The Stud's were already there, and the Locking Bar for the Pass Through was in the car too.

The Outer Sections dropped right in (and, you don't have to worry about feeding the seat through the center seat belt!)

The only problem I have is since I used two of the four nuts for the center section of the the seat, I need to pick up two new nuts to finish the install.

The lower seat just dropped right in.

All in all it took me less than 30 minutes to do.

Now, on to the front seats....

Yep, the lock striker for the center section was in my car as well, the only thing not there you might have to order separately is the decorative plastic trim plate held on by two plastic push-fasteners. 100% plug & play. For the record, Garner's post above about G8 seats not being plug-n-play for 14-17 Caprice was incorrect and should be ignored. 08-09 G8, 11-17 Caprice, 14-17 SS seats will all interchange in the rear seat area. Doesn't matter if you have cloth or leather, all work. G8 and SS seat backs are all three-piece units. Only Caprice seats are one long piece for the seat backs. Personally I feel the G8 seats are the deal of the day due to the hideous prices salvage yards are trying to charge for the SS seats. Only difference is in the red trim thread sewn into the SS seats along with the lack of the velour seat trim. The 13-17 Caprice back door panels don't have the velour trim anyway so IMHO the G8 rear seats are a very good match.

Only 1 quirk that I saw in my 2015, to install the center flip-down section top there are two studs coming up from the body tub. In 11-13 cars, there are 4 studs (which is correct because the bracket on the seat has 4 holes). 14-17 cars seem to only have 2 studs. Guess GM figured the extra 2 studs & nuts were not necessary.

13mm nuts, +1.25 thread are the nuts you need for the studs in the rear seat area. I was short 2 and bought the replacements in combination with flat washers from Ace Hardware, used Nylocks. If you convert to a 3-piece seat back from the single long piece seat back, figure on either scarfing the hardware from the donor car or buying some additional nuts as you will always be short two for 14-17 cars, short four for 11-13 cars.
