I saw this prepainted aluminium crash tape. It looked to be thicker than the 3M, but it is hard to tell and I have no experience with it. The rubber adhesive might show an outline.

Maybe this is something that autobody shops carry. Or maybe someone else has used it and can comment.
I just threw some aluminum hvac duct tape on it. Not pretty. But it covers the holes for now.
