My driver's door switch would not open the trunk, but the passenger side would. Took it apart and found the little circuit board on the driver's side (left side for us yanks) had failed. Cleaned it up with some toxic cleaner, as it looked a little corroded. Still no go, so took the one from the passenger side and swapped it. All good for now.
