New 2014 Caprice 9c1 owner

Post by allgood57 »

Hello, I finally jumped into the 9C1 world with a 2014 with 91600 miles I bought a broken from auction. Probably a terrible idea but they said it was running fine before removing all the police gear. So I figured I could probably fix it. Turns out it was a failed BCM. I found a PI from GM about it, PIT5252A: BCM DTC B101D SYM F0 - Dead Battery - RKE Inop - Horn - Wipers - Hazard Flasher Stuck On - (Feb 6, 2014). Wild but the car had all those symptoms as soon as I replaced the battery after getting the car home. Programmed the new BCM, still wouldn't start. P0615 for a bad circuit on the starter relay and turns out the ground for the relay was bad. Tracing that circuit, the problem was in the fuse panel or UBEC. I enjoy learning so after taking the ubec apart I found the ground on the circuit board had burned up. I replaced that with a nice lil piece of wire soldered in. The car started right up.

When programming the BCM I did notice how I can pick what options the car has like rear door switches etc. I'm wondering if the same thing is possible with the Radio? Can I go through GM SPS and pick a different set of options to enable other things like pandora or Bluetooth? I haven't dug that far yet.

So far fixed a few suspension parts worn out or missing. Did all the normal maintenance, engine oil & filter, trans oil and filter, brake fluid, and rear diff oil (with GM's 75w85 10-4032 carbon modified fluid... really thin but whatever) . Right now the car is an entertaining daily driver. Brakes and tires eventually then autocross because its fun. not going to be fast, but fun. I'll do a Sonnax Zip-Kit in the winter this winter and maybe a torque converter before it fails.

Only downer so far is that when the stickers were removed before I bought the car, the paint from the drivers door and rear door were taken with the sticker. Hilarious but it looks like it never bonded to the primer after some body work. And the 61lb skid plate might be staying off after the trans fluid change. Thanks for an awesome forum. I've found a lot very useful so far. I added a pic of the car and the broken circuit in the BCM just as one of the interesting finds so far.
