New Guy - Pittsburgh Area

Post by BarryM »

Over the weekend, I decided to give up my 4th Gen Camaro Bracket Car for a driver friendly ride.
Weekend Warrior type.

I picked up a 2013 Caprice PPV, it has some issues but had a great price.
Looking forward to all the tech resources on the site.

Items on the to do list this month:

DOD delete
Cam, lifters and springs
Headers and intermediate pipe

Wish list items:

Circle D Converter
3.45 LSD Differential

Any other suggestions ?

Welcome!

Definitely get a dyno tune after the cam and exhaust. You won't regret it.

There are lots of mods you can do. Just read through some builds or through the forum for ideas. The next I would suggest is getting your radio's silver box reprogrammed by White Audio to enable everything it's capable of (except nav which it lacks the hardware).

Looking forward to the build. Please post as you go. ;)
Food for thought, consider this, you don't need the 3.45
A 3.27 is as far as you need to go. Although they, like the 5th Gen Camaros (6L80E trans), have a serious low first gear. BUT these have smaller diameter wheels. + 3.27's are easier to find, usually at a little better cost. Kooks headers if price is not an option. Or anyone's G8 headers of you delete the oil cooler or relocate with a remote set-up. Some use Camaro headers but I don't know why, they sit too low. And still need to delete the cooler I believe.

I suggest x-force exhaust, 2.5 or 3.0! best sounding for that 6.0. Look for it on youtube!

Back in the game . . . Missed my PPV too much.

Found a nice 2014 9C1 . . . . after it met a deer.

- While you are doing the cam install I would consider head work since you will have them off anyways. My valves were pretty pitted and I replaced them along with a valve job. Consider porting for more hp. If staying NA I would have them milled too to increase compression ratio.
- Replace the factory trunnions with CHE trunnion kit so you don't drop a factory needle bearing out of a rocker. Reuse stock rocker arms. Measure for pushrod length.
- Cold air intake, e.g. a Rotofab or similar.
- Clean throttle body and reuse, port intake manifold and do the rod mod.
- Upgrade to the LS2 timing chain tensioner.
- New oil pump if high miles.
- Don't forget to block off the bypass port in the oil pan!

A stall and Camaro diff is a nice upgrade. 3.27 is cheaper and easier to find. 3.45 is nice to get you out of the hole quicker but gets a little annoying on the expressway. It just feels a little too low geared on the expressway, like the car needs to shift again, if that makes sense. I would do 3.27 if taking long trips and a lot of highway driving (or want to save money) and 3.45 if you want the acceleration and mostly city driving. Yank or Circle D (what I have) are great converters. Can do ZL1 converter if on a tight budget.
