fender roll suggested for camaro 20's

Post by bnsfBO »

With my car fully loaded in the trunk and 3 people, the rear tires will rub the fenders with the slightest bump. I have 275/40/20 in the rear and 245/45/20 in the front. I also had to pound on the bottom strut plate to fit in the front. It ever so slightly rubs now. Going to get my fenders rolled and test out a spacer for the front. Little trial and error ha.

Our experience with Scott Walker's car bears this out. With 275/35-20, rolling of (rear) fenders was 100% necessary--it's a width and offset issue, not tire height. 275/40-20 is really too tall (well, I mean that it's a good bit larger diameter than OE PPV tire--28.7" vs 27.3")....it will work, but does it look "right"? Probably helps fill up the wheel opening, but plays havoc with overall gear ratio and speedometer accuracy....may even worsen fuel economy.

It's really the offset on the Camaro rear wheels, which are +40mm & 9" wide--compare them to the SS sedan rear wheel ("most correct" for OE comparison), which has a +57mm offset & 9" width.

So will stock Camaro SS wheels work with the fender roll? The mention here about contact with the strut plate worries me as well. The first pic won't load so I can't tell how they look. If I can I'd like to get a set of these for mine.

Was Scott's car lowered at all?

Thanks,

Yes, my car has coil overs on it. still get a rub if you hit a dip but not bad. Rolling the lip is an art and if you have someone that does not have experience rolling G8 fenders you will have a dimple right in the center of the lip like I have on both sides. I have had 2 different guys work on my car to get it right.

So is rubbing an issue with stock ride height then?

I'm curious, too...

It's time for me to buy new tires, and I was thinking about picking up a set off Camaro Take-offs with tires already on them...

My 9C3 is stock ride height...

Stock ride height with 20's at close to factory tire height you should be fine. Camaro tires are too tall regardless

I understand that they are too tall, but do they rub at stock suspension height?
