Sorry for this somewhat non-answer...the widest tire that you can fit back there is a lot wider than the widest tire that you can put on an 8" rim (which as far as I've seen a tire shop mount according to "their policy" is a 255).
But perhaps S13REMI's thread on how he put 10" wide Corvette wheels with 305/30 on his PPV will help, or at least inform: viewtopic.php?t=1055

The wheel width would be the limiting factor first. Could probably squeeze a 275 on there. the sidewall will look a bit bubbled out since the wheel is only 8" wide, assuming you are refering to the rear

I wouldn’t go any larger than 265/45/18 on stock wheels if you’re looking for any sort of handling and good tire wear. A friend had 275/40/18 drag radials on the back of his car if that helps.

I have 275 on stock wheel. It fits but as others said it is pinched on that width of a wheel.

275 what? Aspect ratio makes a big difference in a tire fitting vs not.

275 with 45 aspect ratio. Tried to stay close to stock height

And what are you getting to fit in the front?
