Spare Tire Rim

Post by ejf2461 »

Yesterday I finally received my 2013 Caprice I purchased on Ebay. I did not come with a full size spare tire. I tried to order one today at Stanley Chevrolet in Indianapolis and they informed me that the spare is slimmer than the other 4 rims on the Caprice? Is this true?My price was over $200 for the Donut Rim. I would like to have a Full Size Rim Identical to the others with a TPMS. I am curious if that mean it will stick up in my truck though? Can anyone help? Thanks so much.

They were wrong, it is a full size wheel and tire, and it fits just fine. :mrgreen:

+1, I have a full size steel wheel and tire from the factory complete with TPS. It was definitely an option and I bought my car new off the lot.

current PPV tech info (Specifications Guide - PDF) http://www.gmfleet.com/specialty-vehicl ... e-car.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

TIRES Goodyear P235/50R18 W-rated blackwall with compact spare (full-size spare is available; see available options page)

Full-size spare listed as RPO SG8 - not standard equipment
SG8 TIRE, SPARE - Full-size (includes TPM sensor not programmed)

Do not know if earlier years included full-size spare as standard. My 2011 Vehicle Build Summary does not list SG8, but the car came with 5 full-size wheels/tires, so I'm thinking the mini-spare was added as standard equipment later as a cost measure.

The New Caprice links menu no longer has the year-by-year PPV Order Guides, but someone (storm 9C1?) has them preserved, I think, and could verify at what point RPO SG8 full-size spare became an option.

Compact spare wheel is listed as applicable to all years of PPV:

Another option might be the Camaro Rally wheel. It's also an 18" steel wheel. I've got a set of take-offs sitting at the house so I could mount one and see how it fits. I'm sure it'll clear the brakes. The Camaro tire will be too tall but the wheels are much easier and cheaper to find than Caprice wheels.

Interesting that the price from GM is actually more for the steel rally wheel than it is for the alloy 18" wheel. All of these are 18 x 7.5 (2010-2015 Camaro V6)--steel or alloy.

Local dealer here has/had a take-off set of 4 Camaro steelies available for $250.

Until I moved to 19's, I was running 2010-2012 Camaro 18 x 7.5 alloy wheels:

QQ5 appears to be the RPO in 2011 for the full size spare (with TPMS; unprogrammed). Interesting that they changed it along the way.

Some of you might enjoy ALL of the brochures/guides in this link. The last two links are for the 2011 PPV. I can't recall what I did with 2012+, I should have them laying around somewhere, at least 2012 and 2013, but haven't uploaded them. Those links are self-hosted and should remain available as long as I shall live (or the power stays on, lol). :-)
