2013 Chevy SS Front Calipers on 2013 PPV

Post by B4CU »

I read with the Camaro Brembo caliper swap you have to have the OEM Brembo banjo bolts.
Has anyone done SS front calipers on a Caprice? Assuming you probably need the Brembo banjo bolts as well.
Currently have 2013 SS front calipers, rotors, and pads. I want to know if there is anything else I need before I start taking things apart.

The Brembo calipers all use M10x1.0 thread banjo bolts--as do all GM (PBR) aluminum calipers

The PPV front caliper is cast iron, and threads are M10x1.5.

Just get the banjo bolt for SS, Camaro or sedan - GM 11569590 or equivalent

I installed a pair of "take-off" Camaro SS Brembo calipers. Dealership mechanic said they had 8 miles on them, and they looked like it. Basically new. $250+30 shipping.

I was going to use the Camaro brake hoses also, until I realized that the Caprice hose assembly includes the body bracket. Initially, I thought the caprice bracket was rusted on to the hose. But its not. There is no ring clip, its swagged permanently together.

So I swapped the banjo bolt from the camaro hose to the Caprice hose. One caveat, the banjo bolt is pre-assembled to the camaro hose for factory assembly. One of the copper gaskets is crimped against the bolt's shaft. A couple blows from a hammer makes for quick disassembly, but the gasket will be destroyed.

For clarity, what model year calipers from Camaro SS are you talking about--and are you still using stock PPV front rotors? Pictures?

copper gaskets for banjo fitting/bolt from GM are PN 21012386 - get some!

Stock PPV hoses will reach the connection on Brembo front caliper.

Let me clarify. I have front Brembo calipers, pads, and rotors from a 2013 Chevrolet SS (the sedan not the Camaro).
I was reading up on Brembos swaps and just saw that people using ones from the Camaro had to get the different banjo bolts.

My reason for asking is that there is NO 2013 SS sedan. The SS sedan was a 2014-2017 offering.

The reason the banjo bolts is different is because the PPV uses a different thread - GM cast-iron calipers are typically M10x1.5--coarser pitch. All GM aluminum calipers (Brembo & PBR sourced) use the M10x1.0 thread--finer pitch, which means there are a greater number of threads in the caliper body, since aluminum is softer and the pressure joint benefits from the added thread contact as far as securing the brake fitting to a given torque value.

Oops yeah typo on the 2013. So the different bolt is needed no matter what. That is what I wanted to know before I took it all apart. Thanks!

Would these would be the correct bolts then?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/CTS-V-Camaro-Z ... 2456818189" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

GM parts direct won't even show the caliper bolts for the Caprice or Camaro or SS in the parts breakdown for some reason.
I called GM and got the part number 92139080 and they want $15+ per bolt and take a minimum of 3 days to get in.

I posted a suitable alternate GM part here a week ago - 11569590.

https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts ... t-11569590" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I realize the description does not seem to be correct, but it is the right part. Alternate is Dorman 14100, which you should be able to find at AutoZone or O'Reilly's.

That eBay listing is still pricey--ZZPerformance--you can do better at the local dealer if they're friendly, or just go to AZ and get the Dorman bolt.

GMPD probaby can show it if you use their alternate lookup process. Here's another dealer's parts illustration that shows 11569590 - look at item #39
