Power steering quit working (again)

Power steering just quit working; recall service was performed less than a year ago (including the recall for power steering failure at that time - NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V160000).

Anyone else have their PPV have a new failure after the power steering recall replacement work was performed? :x

THought there were two stages to the fix correct? One was just dielectric greas then the next one was a new pump? Do you know which one they did on yours?

only 7500 miles on my 14 , and just over 700 miles on my 16 SS , got the recall letter for the SS but ill wait to take it in

the ppv should have been done before i got it back in june

i know for the SS there was a grease tried and some glue type fix before they did the full rack recall

i would check back with your dealer and get them to verify what was done , and if the full rack wasnt done , then it should be done under the recall i believe

Yeah, that's great advice. Thank you. I'm trying to ascertain which now - I have a call in to the service dept. that performed the work last year.

Receipt for original recall service states:

INVOICE 2554350
B 22010 Product Safety Recall Power Steering
RECALL Customer requests to perform recall
23042 W
1 92289255 F-(S)GEAR
2 22913281 (S)CLAMP
3 11611833 (S)BOLT

Other recalls were performed at that time (rear axle wiring harness, frontal airbag/pretensioner non-deploy)

Quick search reveals those parts specifically called out on the service receipt to be:

STEERING GEAR - GM (92289255)
https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts ... eWVyXzE%3D
BOOT KIT CLAMP - GM (22913281)
https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts ... eWVyXzc%3D
LOWER CONTROL ARM BOLT - GM (11611833)
https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts ... eWVyXzk%3D

No power steering pump part number listed anywhere. :?

yeah they replaced the rack which is what their fix was for the whole thing , that isnt good if they are starting to fail !!!

i really wish they would have kept the motor driven power steering !!! collecting all the parts isnt gonna be cheap :(

Yeah, I was just informed that the power steering pump isn't covered under the recall. If everything else was replaced, wouldn't it be likely that the pump just failed? What else could it be?

EDIT: Wait, what??? Haha, I'm dumb - but then again so is the service agent who told me the power steering pump isn't covered. No fluid = no pump

If they replaced the parts as part of the recall and the parts have now failed, aren't they now responsible for the crap parts that they replaced???

From the manual:

Steering
Electric Power Steering
The vehicle has electric power
steering. It does not have power
steering fluid.
Regular maintenance
is not required.

If power steering assist is lost due
to a system malfunction, the vehicle
can be steered, but may require
increased effort.
See your dealer if there is a
problem.

To which parts are you referring?
all the power assit parts from a 11-13 caprice , since they are hydraulic , and not the electric power that keeps failing !!!

AH, so I could convert my '14 from electric to hydraulic power-assisted steering?
