Roundabout? Isn't that what the pansies in Europe have? :D

I gotcha. I should have clarified that routinely downshifting to engine brake isn't the best for the trans. And yes, Sport Shift is annoying to me most of the time. Even in regular shifting sometimes mine holds a gear for like 10 extra seconds when it should upshift. No big deal.

Just an FYI. These cars are programmed to hold an RPM level, a shift point, to keep the car in it's powerband. If the computer senses an aggressive and/or pursuit situation, it will hold a gear if it sees a decrease in throttle % especially after accelerating quickly. It's anticipating the car to be re-engaged in the pursuit. So it holds the gear, to be ready.
The car will also actively downshift earlier (engine braking) if aggressive/pursuit braking is sensed.

SNIP
Traffic control "experts" try to pull that crap in the US, too. We have one near our house. I nearly loaded the 96 SS up into some Honduh, or other such crapcan because the idiot driver decided she'd be nice and STOP for the merging traffic that had the yield sign. it was there that I discovered just how nice a 3.73 diff and 2800 RPM converter can be.

Sometimes even anti-stupid features don't work. I had an old 85 Diplomat that had first gear block out installed being a package car. One day I had to get some get up-n-go! in a hurry and the car wasn't behaving like I wanted it to, so I said to myself (entering blond moment here folks!) "OK, I'll just slap it down into second manually". So, I bang my hand down on the shifter - and now for the REST of the story.....

Well, it turned out that the first gear block out on the shifter was not adjusted correctly. So, when I slapped the shifter down to the stop I ended up going into first at about 50-55 MPH! Needless to say that the engine roared in protest for about a second then "SNAP! tickticktickticktick" from the motor... followed by a few words from me that the BBS would automatically filter from this post :) I had put a pushrod right through a rocker arm!

Never depend on anti-stupid to work when you really need it!

That one came with a 360? Hopefully you dropped a proper K-member in it and went with a 400!!

This car came with a 318 4bbl. Just had a local shop fix it and kept right on trucking. However I did have one I swapped a 360 4bbl into that started life as a 318 2bbl. It wasn't a package motor but man did it light that car up (83 Diplomat). That motor had a nasty habit of blowing freeze plugs though, left me on the side of the road a few times until I found someone that wanted to track it and sold it off. That was in the days when you could purchase an old police car for $90 at public auction.
