Tuners & tuning companies

Post by elc32955 »

OK, for lack of a better place to put this topic I'm starting it under Drivetrain. As you know there are differences between tuning the L76 and L77 platforms. The E85 optioning for the L77 tend to complicate the tables a lot more (from what I've been told). So, someone that may be good at tuning G8's may find tuning a Caprice a little more challenging.

I started this thread so we could post and comment on tuning programs and businesses that are know to tune the L77. Not all tuners are created equal, some are just good, some are damn good!

Anyway.... When I was at the PRI show in Orlando, I found out HP Tuners does support the L77 if anyone wants to purchase the package to tune the Caprice. At least that's what their rep told me when I had eyeballs on him at his booth. Has anyone here done so yet??

As far as physical tuners, the only one that I know will take it on right now in my part of the US is Redline Motorsports, 1931 NW40th Court, Deerfield Beach, FL 33064. (954) 703-5560. I had the pleasure of meeting Howard (company owner) last year at an informational seminar he was hosting for G8 and GTO owners, very knowedgeable individual with a proven track record. Howard has a dyno on-site and has done many different types of cars, also he's worked with GM in the past and had access to cars in-advance before the general public. When I go to get my car done this is where I'm heading.

Yes, HP tuners does, indeed, support the L77. I bought the pro package, and my installer, tuner, used it to tune "Da Beast"!

Very good. Just curious, can you still run E85 after your tune or are you now Premium only?

That I don't know, but it's pretty much a moot point here in TX. Not much E85 sold here, if any.

OK, I think I've finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase a HP tuner setup so I can tune my car. Bob, on your setup which vehicle do you have to select? I looked at their on-line help and I didn't see a selection for the Caprice, but I did see a selection for Holden 6.0 and 6.2 sedans. Is this the one you used?

On my calibration after reading, it is listed as Holden Sedan(V8) 2011. I just download a new update from HPtuners. It is an amazing tool!

Gentlemen,
Just bought the HP Tuners standard MPVI. The tuning process is going to be from the very beginning with LOTS of questions and hopefully LITTLE trial and error. I have already started to look for existing tunes within the HP Tuner repository. I have searched using: L76, L77, Holden Sedan, 2011, 2012. Not looking to plug and play with another tune, but I want to see what is changed for each mod. Such as CAI, Exhaust axle ratios etc. I have not found a lot yet. I need to be aware that GM changed the programming system several times.
I will let you all know as I go along!
