6L80 disassembly and build thread

Post by orgdnr »

So the symptoms were 3-4 flare that would hit the rev limiter at 6600 with the shift commanded as low as 5900. Flare torque on dyno was in the mid 700's and acted as if I had a 4000 stall converter when I have a 2600 circleD that would stall around 2700.

The 456 clutches were a bit burned but I think the pump was likely the cause. Housing and stater are scored and being replaced with ACdelco factory Chinesium (barf) I'll put up what I'm doing but every transmission has different issues so every build is unique. Plenty of metal paste in the valve body and quite a bit of time will be spent cleaning it out. I ordered the alto powerpack kits, SK kit, sonnax 456 apply piston and a billet intermediate shaft. This is being done to address some weak areas and hopefully prevent another failure. With the Christmas holiday it maybe the the 28th before I get the shaft so updates might be slow. At this point I'm in it 2K

Ooh, there was some heat, there. You're including the 'Vette servo' mod, too?

I may have one in the container. I'll duct tape it on the side. Installing kevlar bands as well ;-)

Post mortem: Pump housing, stater, slider, rotor totaled. The pressure regulator valve worn and in bypass. Vanes were seized in rotor (see pic) this trany had a 2-3 flare when I got it and what I see with the pump wasn't caused by a few hundred miles with power. Waiting for my billet intermediate shaft and 1234 piston to finish her up.

Hmm, starved for fluid once or twice, probably before you got it?
