I haven’t been very motivated to work on this project so it is going pretty slow. Keeping busy with some other things that I’ve been wanting to get done like changing out a bad TPMS sensor last night.
I have cut a little stainless and will load a few pics.

I worked on this for several hours yesterday with VERY slow progress. Currently regretting my decision to go this route, but not enough to change direction.

Here are a few photos of where it is sitting now. There is a shot of the 3” pipes from the front and rear. Also the front plate of the new chamber with the double wall. I’ll be packing the gap between the walls with mineral wool.

I intend to make a little more progress this evening.

Progress was much better last night. I cut out a top and side plate for the inner chamber before supper and went back out after supper to tack them in place.

That went so well that I welded up the seams 100%.

And THAT went so well that I cut the other side plate and welded it in place.

Weld quality with the heavier sheet is SOOO much better.

I put in a stiffener across the side plates to try to prevent any vibration.

Then I added a stiffener from top to bottom.

I drilled a hole in the bottom plate before welding it in so that I could plug weld it to the stiffener.

The progress last night wasn’t as good as the night before but still ok.

Next I’ll be test fitting it again to make sure everything still looks good and cutting the holes in the outlet end plate.

Made some progress this morning. I slipped the end plate of the outside shell back on to help verify clearance as I did a test fit.

Then I taped the plate in place at the other end so that I didn’t have to try to hold it as I marked the pipe location.

I put a plywood spacer on top to maintain clearance to the tunnel and raised it into position with the floor jack.

Holding a scrap of 2.5” pipe in place, I marked the location on the end plate.

And cut the holes in the end plates.

I’m headed back out to the shop now to clean up those holes and start welding. I would really like to have this chamber all assembled by the end of the day.

I put a bell mouth on the outlet pipes for a smoother transition into them. Then welded them into the inner end plate. The outer end plate is just slipped on in this photo for test fitting.

After welding the end plate in, I cut a piece of mineral wool insulation to go between the walls. Here are the parts layer out.
