Spark plugs

Post by Navy Lifer »

Rock Auto currently lists the L77 (V8) OE ACDelco spark plug for $5.35 each. Don't know if they're cheaper somewhere else.

ACDelco has a rebate running to the end of the year for $2.00 per spark plug, up to 16 plugs ($32.00) per address/household.

same plugs are $41.80 for 8 with free shipping on amazon.com Slightly less than the rockauto total even with the 5% code...

Has anyone actually seen the need to change a set yet? I keep getting info that I'm running into knock on my car with a remote tuner... this is on a 89 octane tune using various big name local gas for such... I've run techron through also but might do the plugs anyway.

Heh, that was my question too. We're at ~86K on the clock on our PPV, and it still runs fine. Just wondering. I did the plugs and wires on the Tahoe at around 100K, because the mileage had tanked, but it changed neither the MPG, nor how it ran (it otherwise runs fine). I'm thinking I should get at least that much from the plugs in the Caprice.

100,000 is usually the norm but if your car was a patrol car, I would change them sooner since the idle time is not factored in. Not sure about LS motors but the Crown vics used to have a bad problem with premature ignition coil failure contributed to excessively worn spark plugs. We found that the "100,000" mile plugs were usually worn to over twice their intended gap about by the time they reached 60,000-65,000 miles. Again, these were urban area police vehicles with a lot of unregistered engine use due to a lot of idling. My two cents.
