Heh, indeed. Did you do any transmission updates before the LSA mods, or did you start up front first? It will be interesting to know what the postmortem is.

Well that's a major downer!

Have you considered going to the 6L90E (variant that is behind the LSA, also used in truck applications)? I think the hidden jem is probably the Express vans. 3/4 and 1 ton with pretty much any engine (4.8 through 6.6 Duramax) should have the 90E. The 90E has some better parts inside (input gearset has 6 pinions vs 4, output gearset uses wider gears, may have additional clutch plates as well). Trans is a little longer overall (35mm) and reportedly a bit bigger overall (1/8" to 1/4" or so). Overall length might require driveshaft shortening. It's also a bit heavier.

Not a sermon, just wanted to make sure you knew there were some other choices available. I'm guessing you do, but....

Just the Camaro pan and SS 3.45 diff. Have my feelers out for a 90 but $1500 seems to be the # on them from the boneyards. When I get the 80 apart I'll see how bad it is and go from there. In the mean time I'm rolling a 30 model A pick up for a DD.

According to Car-Part.com there is a Canadian salvage yard with a ZL1 spec trans for $1300. But then you'd have to ship it. And I'm not sure they could ship easily to the states.

Dom's Auto Parts - 1-905-434-4566 /1-800-481-7272.

The CTS-V / ZL1 spec transmssions have a slightly higher rating. Not sure exactly what changes (I saw some discussion of a "Lite" version of the 90E with one less clutch plate for certain applications, probably 4.8 V8 trucks and vans, I'd think that should be avoided for your application).

Daily'ing a 30 Model A. Sounds like good fun, especially with a 383 in it. And something you can't (or maybe shouldn't) do in every part of the country at this time of year.

Wow, thanks for posting this info. I'm pulling my LSA and tranny together and planned to drop it in the Caprice immediately. I'll have to do some measurements once I drop it in to see where I stand on driveshaft length. I wonder what the V and Camaro DS lengths are in comparison.

It's done! I had a few issues with the transmission. I had installed the sk boost valve with the over pressure relief and when I commanded high shift pressures, it mechanically dumped under pressurizing the 456 clutch and welding them together. got rid of that with no other changes and it's fine. I had a friend down under work on the tune and she shifts like a Cadillac part throttle and a Lenco wide open even with the torque management active. My harness came in from Australia yesterday for the tr6060 so all that is left is BCM programming and a clutch that will hold against the LSA. If I have time today I'm going to make an LS7 MAF intake tube and get some dyno #'s vs the stock unit.

The 2010 SS Camaro shaft is 24 1/2 in long PN 92246788 and is about 2 in shorter than the Caprice. with the 6L90 being 35mm longer than the 80, you should be in the ball park as the spline engagement is 2 1/8in.

Is that an older part number? I just checked GM Parts Direct and they show 92249105 for a manual and 92237002 for an automatic. Where did you get the length numbers? If you found them somewhere do you know what a 2011 CTS-V Coupe automatic DS length is? That's what my parts car is.
