Re: L77 DOD Elimination and Cam Upgrade
Will the LS2 work? I know there are differences between differently-numbered LS* engines, as some are what's known as 'Gen-III' and others are 'Gen-IV', and there can be big differences there. Unfortunately, I know just enough to make myself dangerous about these things, but I'd be concerned. Isn't there a difference between the crank position sensor between the generations, something like a 24-tooth, vs. 53-tooth, or something like that? I dunno if they'll swap between blocks, or not.
I'm not trying to muddy the water, here, just want to make sure you don't end up with a doorstop, and STILL have to find a block.

Re: L77 DOD Elimination and Cam Upgrade
I asked the same question. This is a C6 GenIV 6.0L LS2 block. The difference being this does not have provisions for DOD. The LS2 engines came with the Cathedral Heads... if they had the L92 heads, they were called L76 engines which is a direct swap for someone not wanting DOD. So with that in mind... it is what I am going for. Once again... I will post pics later, I should be picking up the block tonight.CrashTestDummy wrote:Will the LS2 work? Re: L77 DOD Elimination and Cam Upgrade
As stated, the LS2 is a Gen 4 engine. The heads are different but I assume you would reuse your L77 heads as from what I know, they flow better. I too remember hearing something about a difference in the type of reluctor and or CKP sensor but I'm 99 percent sure all of that hardware can be swapped over from the original L77 block.

Re: L77 DOD Elimination and Cam Upgrade
I am taking everything from my block and swapping it over. I have been advised this will be a time consuming task but with new bearings, rings and such will be like having a new engine.9C1fanatic wrote:As stated, the LS2 is a Gen 4 engine. Re: L77 DOD Elimination and Cam Upgrade
Well I just got back from picking up a nice & clean LS2 Corvette Block! This was HALF the price of buying from from Summit Racing and now I can start building it tomorrow.
I love it when a plan begins to come together. Now I just need to get a mild cam, lifters, valley cover and other misc parts to complete the job. I am going to change all the bearings and add new piston rings to the build. Should be like having a fresh engine.

What do you intend to bore it? If your plan is over .020 are you going to sonic check it? 10.4 or 11.0 to 1.

Leaving the bore stock. Just getting it together and building the block I remove by sending it to Katech.orgdnr wrote:What do you intend to bore it? If your plan is over .020 are you going to sonic check it? 10.4 or 11.0 to 1.

Funny, although I found the K-member to make a nice seat while I cleaned the firewall and inner fenders on our 3-rd Gen before the new engine went in.
