The latest scoop on headers/exhaust?

Post by CrashTestDummy »

Please correct me if I'm wrong here:

I believe that the Kooks headers for the SS will fit the 9C1 and let you keep the oil cooler?

And a cat back exhaust system for a SS will fit the Caprice IF you add an extension to the mid-pipes to make up for the longer wheelbase on the Caprice?

I'm asking because there's a pretty good deal going on over on the SS forum for a pretty good price on the Kooks headers/exhaust system and header coating. I'm interested, but wondering how much of a pain it would be to use this kit? Thanks.

The mid-pipe should be an easy fab, for a good shop. All the rest should fit right in. 8-)

I have the kooks 25102400 and 25103300 on the way. I will post picks of the installation and make comments as to fitment. What is the price you're getting?

Been out for a while...Sorry about that. Yes you are correct about the Kooks headers. My car was the test measurement car and the first PPV that they did the install on. They actually did an SS first after measuring my car but that is another story.

They custom fit my system with their high flow race cats and crossover mating it to the Solo axle back system I already had installed. My car really drew a lot of attention at last fall's car show at the Kooks facility.

Looks like it's ~$875-~$900 depending on primary diameter. I went back and read the fine print. What they are discounting are the headers, and throwing in free header coating, but you MUST also purchase an X-pipe to get the discounts/free coating.

I priced out a 1-3/4" primary set, 3" high-flow cats & X- mid-pipe and the Kooks 3" axle back exhaust, and it came out to ~$2600 before I entered any discount code.

The info is here:

http://www.ssforums.com/forum/engine-te ... speed.html

Can I just get a length of pipe and make my own extensions, or does it require some odd bends?

What diameter primaries did you get? I'm guessing that some programming is required to turn off the secondary cats?

I would recommend going with the 1 7/8, just to give yourself growing room. 8-) Tuning will be needed, and HPtuners works fine, just a click or two!
