But won't the bigger diameter primaries hurt low-to-midrange performance?

I already have EFI Live, although I haven't really used it much. I wonder what it would take to fix the cat issue with it?

Not in my opinion. Plenty of G8's running stock cams, NA, with the bigger primaries. EFI live should work fine, but it still should be tuned, to get the most out of them.

Now for the other question; exactly what does it take to reach from the X-pipe/mid-pipe, to the axle-back, since the SS system would be short on a Caprice?

That, I can't tell you. In my case, my installer didn't, for whatever reason, use the intermediate pipes, from the Kook's x-pipe. I have Kook's 1 7/8 headers, three inch high flow cats, three inch x-pipes, then he used the Kook's flanges, from the Kook's intermediate pipes, and welded them into my stock intermediate pipes, over the axles.
