Dyno Tune for my L77
Dyno Tune for my L77
Okay, today I finally got the Dyno Tune on my 2011 PPV done at PCM of NC. I did not do a stock baseline so I have no idea what the car was making before I started moding it. I have the RotoFab cold air intake, Kooks long tube headers (retaining the oil cooler), Kooks high flow race cats, crossover pipe and the Solo axle back kit so there are no mufflers or resonators on the car. The first pull today was 350.01 rwhp with 367.15 lbft torque.
After the tune was complete the car is at 373.92 rwhp and torgueis 390.30. AFM is disabled and the shift is firmer. My wife says it feels faster which I plan on testing at the 1/8th mile very soon.

Nice numbers! Mine baselined around 290, before the blower went on. With some good air, and drag radials, I wouldn't be surprised if you don't tickle some twelves!

Would've been nice to have a little video of the dyno run . So you got the new kook headers for the SS or do the ones for the G8 let you keep the oil cooler ?

Re: Dyno Tune for my L77
Tom,
I'm wanting understand the numbers--is 373 HP the calculated power at the flywheel (stock advertised being 355) or is it actually at the rear wheels?
I don't know what the powertrain "loss" calculation may be, but taking Bob's 290 HP number, that's in the range of 18% - 19%, which is not uncommon. If we take your 373 number as "at the rear wheels", that means the tune resulted in a power increase at the flywheel to 435 HP (from 355), for an 80 HP increase, so I'm wondering if this is correct.
Not questioning whether it's possible or valid--just looking for clarity.
It must go without saying that the new calibrations call for premium fuel--please confirm.
More importantly, when you can get some real-world numbers, give us an idea of the impact on fuel economy.
Did Alvin indicate whether there was anything unusual about doing the PPV vs other LS configs--this had to be very similar to a G8 GT tune. Was he using your input as to what you wanted, or just doing a standard "this is what we do" tune?
Has to be a real smile machine now!!!

I am assuming at the wheels, which are nice numbers. And very doable, from what I've seen on the G8 boards.

Re: Dyno Tune for my L77
The 373.9 hp is at the rear wheels. Alvin told me that most of the 6.0L LS engines start out at about 290 at the rear wheels so those numbers for stock are what was expected. When Alvin started on my car it was at 350 rwhp from the addition of the RotoFab cold air intake and the Kooks long tube headers with their race cats and crossover pipe plus the Solo Axle back muffler elimination. To answer the question before it is asked, yes the car is loud - directly behind it when I punch it. Not louder than a lot of the Mustangs and big pickups but loud.
Yes the tune requires premium because Alvin estimated that was worth 20-30 hp in the final tune. He started with a G8-GTO tune and customized it just for my car. Nine runs on the dyno to get it where he was satisfied. I got the firmer shifts, not the extreme hard shifts, but at 35mph it will throw you back in the seat. As far as gas mileage I couldn't tell you yet - I'm still having fun punching it so it will be a while before I settle down to get real numbers.

Re: Dyno Tune for my L77
I would suspect that your MPG will be better. If you can keep your foot out of it! He probably leaned the tune some. Nice numbers for the mods. Good tuner!
