Re: AFM questions
The pic I posted of the filter beside a pink ruler....that filter is straight out of a 0 mile crate engine. See the shit that's already caught in the basket.bnsfBO wrote:Once I get my hands on the filter and yank it ill definitely post a picture.
Re: AFM questions
Makes you wonder when GM added this, during development or after production release? And could AFM operational failure be caused by mechanical weakness or a drop in oil supply caused by a dirty screen insert. And, is there a service schedule for this screen?

Re: AFM questions
With our cars having AFM in them, is Amzoil alright to use for oil with the lifters? I know Amzoil says that if anything happens to the engine, they will cover the cost if used properly. They say the oil is suppose to exceed Dexos quality. Just wondering what to do with an oil change. By the way I am starting to smell like burt oil in the car and I have only 13,000 miles on it. Thanks

Re: AFM questions
I'm going resurrect this old thread since it's really the only one that covers the VLOM filter. I went ahead and pulled mine @ 57,000 miles. It was like new. So for anyone out there curious - if you know the car had regular oil changes - it's probably not something that needs to be checked until well over 100/150k.

Re: AFM questions
I did not know about this filter. I'm wondering if they replaced it, or at least inspected it when the lifters were replaced in our car at ~48000 mi. I'm thinking that since there was no mention of it in the work order, probably not.

Re: AFM questions
Being at the back of the engine, is the sensor hard to get out and once its out, is the filter hard to get out due to location? Any special tools needed or make the job easier being so far back on the engine given that some of it sits under the cowl?Karma_Police wrote:I'm going resurrect this old thread since it's really the only one that covers the VLOM filter. Re: AFM questions
I'm betting that dropping a LSA-type super charger on top of the engine would make that exercise a LOT of fun.

Re: AFM questions
Sorry for the late response. Overall it's not difficult to do. I didn't remove any cowling. I lifted the gray tab on the electronic plug that sits on the switch. Then squeeze the connector and off it comes. This took me more time than anything - I took my time out of fear of breaking the connector. I used a lisle (PN 13250) deep socket specifically for oil switches - it came off without any issues. Then I used a pick to get at the screen. This took a few tries. I did it blind while feeling what was going on with my left hand. I highly recommend a pick with two bends in it as this filter is amazingly small.9C1fanatic wrote:Being at the back of the engine, is the sensor hard to get out and once its out, is the filter hard to get out due to location?
