Better fuel pump for boost?

Post by andrewquant » Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:28 am

So my fuel pressure is starting to run quite low when using E85, its dipping down to 25 psi at WOT and I am adding boost soon. Pretty safe to say I'll need a better fuel pump. Are there any PWM higher flow rate pumps out there? Ideally I would want a drop in replacement with 50% more output that the ZL1 pump thats already in there.

So, just curious, did you ever find anything to suit your needs? I have run into the same issue after installing a ProCharger D1X. I tried to get the Livernois Motorsports Firestorm dual pump kit, which I was told was a direct drop in, but they have no ETA on when they would be able to get me one.

I ordered a pump from Australia upon recommendation from an Aussie mate via KPM Fuel Systems. The StreetFighter series ranges from 800hp to 1500hp so I ordered their 1500hp drop in unit. It shipped same day and I was told it should take 7-10 days. It is in the US right now but held at customs so hopefully they took all that into account. I will report back with more info as I get it.

Yes. I went with the DSX tuning add-on pump because it works with the returnless system. I do like it a lot. I pretty much have it maxed out on E85 and 15 PSI of boost with my displacement though. I run it pretty lean (0.87) and spray meth to help out. It gets down to about 30 PSI of fuel pressure at the end of a WOT run, which was about how low it got before when I was just big cammed NA with no extra pump. It helps if you overkill it with your injector specs because you can run the lower fuel pressure and keep your duty cycle less than 100 still. Your pulsewidth just gets pretty high with the low pressure so you have to be able to pop in a huge burst of low pressure fuel in a very short time.

Are you guys also re-programming the Fuel Pump module as well? I have read about people programming the ZL1 specs to it.

I adjusted my tune on the stock FICM to account for the boost pump, but did not replace any hardware.
