but it's not about being hot because you said if you hook jumpers to it it fires right up. So it's about depleted voltage more than the temp of the engine.

heat actually creates resistance , which is why most starting problems are when hot vs cold , its that resistance that drops the voltage

Yes true, But that resistance and drop in voltage does not phase a healthy battery.
UNless of course a piston has locked up in the cylinder!! Then no battery gonna help ya!
