Fuel Mileage

Post by lastcall190 »

I know I know, a 6 liter V8 is not the car to get for fuel mileage (daily is an '08 CVPI so thirsty mules are commonplace).

This isn't that, but interested to see if others have similar results or if maybe there is something wrong with my car. My wife has been using the car lately for her commute and I blast it a bit on the weekends. Her commute is 100% city, I just filled the car up yesterday and am getting a tick under 15mpg. Very minimal warm up in the morning (<2 minutes). Car has stock gears, LS9 cam, tuned for 93 octane, stock intake, header back exhaust. Good pressure in tires, need to have the camber fixed up front, but besides that, only two small children in the car for half of the drive. I am hand calculating this mileage.

I mean I believe the car is RATED for 15mpg city, so I suppose I should be not too surprised. Wife sure as hell doesn't care. Just wanted to see what others might have experienced in their DOD deleted cars. When I fix her other car we will rotate on and off and I can take it on my commute some weeks which is >50% highway to see what the difference is.

Thanks all.

Your MPG sounds pretty spot on sir, I have 14.7 sitting in my display since last oil change, it rarely gets up over 16 unless I have some big highway miles at low speed.... What octane are you using?

try having your tuner tweak your tune for better mileage while cruising

though i bet if you compared your mileage to your wives , in the same conditions , yours will be higher

I have had my DOD delete for about 2 Months now. I am getting 15.2 mph for everyday driving @ 40 - 50 mph and still in same oil change. I did some highway driving and I got up to 18 mph. I have a question, how’s your gear shifting? My first three gears are rough, more so in the morning.

I have had my plug in DOD delete and I m getting a few more MPGs than you are. I can see low 20s on a 50 MPH road.

I found almost no difference between DOD and no DOD. And I drive it like I stole it except maybe on multi-lane highways where I don't have to pass.

Over the past 14,500 miles I am averaging 15.70 mpg with DOD turned off but stock drivetrain, using E85 and/or 87 octane.

The previous 19,750 miles I averaged 17.20 mpg all stock, using E85 and/or 87 octane.

So about 1.5 mpg drop, however I think I likely have been using more E85 as well which does not help the mileage.

So quick update.... I drove from Milwaukee to Madison which is about 60 miles at 80mph (2000rpm) and I am happy to say my dash reading was 19mpg. Not bad with the cam upgrade.
