P2135 and Reduced Engine Power

Post by thirdgenfarmer »

Interesting issue I've had twice, about a full year apart.

Code P2135 Throttle Position Sensor A/B Voltage Correlation. Results in car entering a reduced power mode, loss of stabilitrak and abs.

Both times has occurred on the highway, and I had to pull off very quickly as I could not maintain a highway speed. Brakes did not work correctly - very pulsey and lots of weird vibration. Engine was shaking quite badly - maintaining about 1000 rpms at idle and in park. I cleared the code while the car was running and everything went back to normal - no check engine, stabiltrack or abs lights - and idle returned to normal.

My car stumbles a little bit at idle but not bad enough to be an issue by itself, however I think the issues are likely related.

From my research it looks like this is more common with some of the GM trucks - and is cured by replacing the TPS which means the whole throttle body if I'm not mistaken. Before I throw money at it (I think throttle body is ~$130-200+) I wanted to see if anyone else had solved this problem?

Happened two more times - back to back yesterday. Disconnected battery for 30 seconds or so, cleared code and was able to make it home.

Gave the throttle body a good cleaning, on the off chance that there was enough carbon build up to be effecting the deflection/reading of the sensor.

Will keep updating - if it happens again I will likely replace the TB.

Just wanted to post a short update, have not had another issue. Will continue to monitor.

Any updated information on this? How many miles were on your car. One of our agencies' 2015 Caprices is doing this exact thing. Been to the shop three times with no success.

Update - I have not had the same trouble code appear in some time (likely since my last update). However, when under heavy acceleration (say holding the throttle to ~100% for multiple seconds) the car will give a blinking check engine light and stabilitrak is disabled temporarily. Letting off the throttle and the CEL disappears and I am able to continue driving without issue. No code is stored or able to be retrieved - i will attempt to repeat the process with my code reader on the car - but that's a bit hard given it seems i need to be @ 100% throttle for this to occur.

Anyone have any experience with this? Again leaning towards a t/b replacement due to what i have read regarding certain GM trucks - just wish i had more to go on.

Agreed.

Sounds like you have two issues, the stumble and rough idle, plus the blinking CEL under full throttle is a misfire issue.

The correlation code sounds like a TB issue.

I am getting something similar but have not been able to figure out the source. in logs i can see there is a large difference between TPS1 and TPS2, but wires, TB and tune all seem to be agreeing.

Can someone with a '14-16 PPV log or see the following data....this may help myself and others.

Acc Pedal Position 1
Acc Pedal Position 2
TPS1 %
TPS1 Volts
TPS2 %
TPS2 Volts

My data is all found on this thread:
