oil pressure sender issues
About a month ago my check engine light came on, checked it with the torque app and it said oil pressure sender range fault.
little research said this is pretty common on g8s, so i changed it (huge pita if the connector faces the intake...) and the light was gone.
problem solved until this last tuesday, when i was driving home from work and the CEL came back on.
checked with torque, same story P0521 "Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Range/Performance".
figured i'd gotten a bad one and replaced it today, problem persisting...
any ideas? there would be a real warning for low oil pressure right, it still drives the same.

Here is the Diagnosis document from the service manual:

And this is a TSB for -0 cold starts, do not think that is your case.

Re: oil pressure sender issues
yeah it's not at a cold start, havent been able to nail down specifics.
theres a very concerning line in that document: "oil pressure is below 1.16 psi above 1520 rpm"
so it could be low pressure?
but i can clear it with my obd reader and it doesnt come back immediately, with it should if the pump was bad?
also, theres a filter under the sensor right? i didn't replace it, so is it possible that it is gunked up and could be affecting the reading?

Not necessarily replace it, but you should at least pull it and make sure it's clean. I have heard it can be an issue, though.

I had the sensor fail on me as well. Replaced with with ACDelco and the problem has not come back for about a week or so. Are you using AC Delco or aftermarket?

Re: oil pressure sender issues
I'm using aftermarket, different brand for both sensors, still got the cel
I figured aftermarket shouldn't be a big issue, considering this part is in like all gm v8s right?

Re: oil pressure sender issues
so i finally resolved this with an OEM sensor and an oil change, still at 40% life on the monitor. pretty dark though, ill have to shorten the interval
Re: oil pressure sender issues
Well I would imagine if the oil life monitor was not getting the correct pressure fugures it may have screwed up it's calculation. Maybe.

Re: oil pressure sender issues
I got the same light. When looking the part up I found oil pressure switch, and oil pressure sensor. Doesn anyone have the AC Delco part number they used?

Don’t forget the screen underneath it.
