Cam/shorties/high-flow cats/Rotofab CAI/CTSV converter

Post by bsparks72 »

So, my 2012 is under the knife, getting the above done. Cam is a 228/234, .604/.609 on a 112lsa. Should be torquey with a little thump. :) Got a good deal on JBA coated shorty headers and Solo high-flow cats. Not as good as long tubes, but will bolt up to the existing exhaust, and should be good enough for my daily driver. The CTSV (same as ZR1) converter is a little looser than stock so I won't push through the brakes at a stop, but retain stock driveability. And they're twin disc converters, and very stout.

I'll probably get it back in a week or two. In the meantime, I have an Impala 9C1 courtesy of Dallas PD. It's kinda rough (this is the good side haha), but runs good. 2006, 93k miles, no back seat for $1600. I tinted the windows so nobody can see me in it. :D

My wife and I call those 'Lumpalas'. :D

Can't wait to see how the CTS converter works out.

I've seen a comment about the ZL1 (Camaro) converter as you describe (from 6L90), but not ZR1 Corvette--is it one or the other, or both?

Sorry, I did in fact mean ZL1. Had ZR1 on the brain for some reason. Yeah, I'm interested to see how it goes.

I think a popular name for the FWD Imps is "Wimpala". Yeah, pretty much! It's 4 wheels and a seat, and only temporary thank goodness.

BSPARKS, are you planning on any dyno time with the new mods? I'm interested in a similar cam and exhaust setup so I'd be curious to see what it puts down. I'm thinking it'd make for a great warmed up DD!

I'll probably dyno it in the next few months. I'm hoping for 400ish at the wheels.

Well, I got the car back today after a bad torque converter seal delayed me about a week. The car sounds tough, and pulls so much harder. If the weather holds out, I'll find out what it will run in the 1/4 this Friday night.

The builder also had an X pipe on hand for the exhaust that had been on a G8, so that was placed in as well. The torque converter feels a lot like stock, as I knew it would from other reports. It does allow the car to idle without pulling through the brakes, and does give a touch more stall. It's a win in my book, for what I do. I know the car would feel a lot quicker out of the hole with deeper gears as well, but I still like my 2k rpms at 80 thing, so I don't know if I want to spend the money there. Here's a few shots. I also have an idle vid I'm working on.

I cannot get my stubborn old SIII to email the vid to myself. I'd be glad to share with your cell phone or on facebook.

I sent you a PM.
