2012 Cam Swap and Exhaust Video

Post by YamWarrior »

Here's a link to my completed texas speed cam swap and dod delete. Went with a 225/230 114lsa as to keep the stock converter. Exhaust is solo axleback. The iphone doesn't capture much of the bass tones so it sounds much deeper in person. Overall im pretty happy.

The squeak you hear btw is the a/c compressor, finally decided to go out right after the cam install

Sounds good. that seems to be a popular cam lately. I did the same on a 112 LSA and it sounds about the same. I still have not had it dyno tuned, just played around on HPTuners with it. Is this clip after a tune? What numbers did you put down?

This clip is after the tune. Im running a remote tune with EFI live from a guy in Georgia. Have not had the opportunity to dyno it yet. Hopefully at LS Fest coming up I can book a dyno time to see what it will do.

Mine has not been professionally tuned, but I did steal a tune from HP Tuners repository of a G8 that had similar cam specs and head work done. I had to make a few modifications, such as pulling timing at idle, turning off power enrichment below 1,000 RPMs, and I still need to cut fuel on E85, as it runs at a target 10.4:1 AFR, which is fine for cruising, but way too much at idle. I don't have a wide band to accurately track it, and I have some exhaust leaks, so I don't trust the PCM reading. The car was able to run on a factory tune, but it wasn't great. Its much smoother now, the car shakes at idle, but it doesn't surge or buck at all. I still have the stock converter and it drives similar to stock, just noticeably faster.

So just curious, because I have zero experience with e85; is 10.4 a 'standard' slightly-lean mixture for e85? That seems pretty pig-rich for gasoline.

I think the completely stock mixture for ethanol is like 9.7 or something. I'm sure a quick Google search could find it. 10.4 is what "good" e85 would be, and 10.0 would be for ~e75. This is all new to me, as well, as I have only dealt with gas.

Good to know, and cool. I've gone the opposite direction; getting as much alcohol out of our cars as possible. I've even gone to the extreme of keeping a drum of VP C9 in the shop so our rarely-driven cars aren't exposed to alcohol. It's not good at all to have that crap sitting around in your car for any length of time. I've enjoyed the results too many times. Racing fuel is the cheap way out.

Runs pretty well. Before my tune it would buck and surge and die once I rolled to a stop. Now idle is right around 700 RPM and gas mileage is around 23 mpg if I can keep my foot out of it!
