I ve been using the Ranger AFM/DOD disabler on a 2016 with 30K plus miles. Has been doing it s job flawlessly for 7-8K keeping the 4 cylinder mode off.
My question is would it be smart to unplug and let the system work and lube itself every few thousand miles or so or is that just not going to accomplish anything? Thanks because I don t know the system well enough to make that call.

Re: AFM/DOD question
Here's the thing, it usually fails from being used and a lifter fails to return to normal and stays collapsed. Well, that was with earlier years of the introduction of this system. Apparently these issues were fixed in later years (not!).
Now maybe, by not activating the DOD, oil stays stagnant in there, gets all coked up, dirt stays in there, maybe.
Think of it this way. You don't use your parking brake for a long time and then you use it and it stays stuck due to rust and non-use.
Just my 2¢
