2014 Engineering Mode?

Post by toyguy5538 »

Does anyone know how to get into the engineering mode on the 2014s? I have tried holding several buttons down while turning the key on to no avail. I'm sure there's a way, I just haven't found it yet. Any help would be appreciated.

On my 2011, you can hold down the enter button while you turn the key on and get a list of items on the dash display, such as coolant temp, etc. I can't find which button to hold down on the 2014 to get there.

Head over to youtube and search "G8 engineering mode"

A few videos showing all the options.

Very interesting. I would love more display options on my 2014. There is nothing in the owners manual about it but Im about to order the service manuals and maybe it will be in there.

A quick search on the internet looks bleak. It appears there is no engineering mode on the 2014 up cars. I found this on the SS forum when someone asked a similar question:

No engineering mode on the VF.

Global Diagnostic System 2.

Completely different architecture.

Seems the SS has a lot of display items in the normal DIC that the Caprice does not have.

I wish I could monitor DOD status and see what gear the trans is in. I can usually tell by the RPM vs speed but its still nice to have a display with so many gears. I would also like to one day get the temp gauge from the SS cause I like to constantly monitor that no have to scroll through DIC to look at it. Temp gauge in the SS goes where the P RNDL indicator is on the Caprice.

Camaro also does not have engineering mode.

The normal operation of the DIC in the 2014 shows speed, coolant temp, battery voltage, tire pressures, oil life, and all of the normal trip and fuel info. No oil pressure, no trans temp, no RPM, no current gear and surprisingly, no AFM status. Only way I can tell its in AFM mode I think, is when instant fuel mileage is in the 27-32 MPG range and stays there for a significant amount of time with my foot still on the gas.

Looks like it's time for an OBD-II plug-in solution. There's several nice ones now that will mount if you can find a spot for a 2 1/8" hole.

I think you are right. Maryland speed is supposedly developing a pillar mounted gauge pod for the SS and I am hoping it will work on a 2014 Caprice.
