Transmission tune

Post by bigun283 »

I just got my HP Tuners and I've read there is a big improvement to be had by tuning the transmission. Has anyone else tried tuning their transmission?

I didn't tune it myself and it does shift better. However, I have been having issues with it lately. it was shifting really hard the first year but then this year it's been slipping shifts and I'm pretty sure the TCC is slipping or not staying locked. Went back to the tuner and he softened the shifts a bit and did an shift pressure adaptation relearn. Helped the slippage but the TCC is still weird.

I have HPT and was going to put the stock trans tune back in (got a copy of my stock tune from the tuner) but I never took the time to do it before I put it in storage for the winter.

There is a tool out there called BlueCat that I used on my Avalanche's 4L70E that improved the shifts. It's on the conservative side so it won't make the shifts super aggressive.

One thing I did learn reading out there is to no over do it with killing torque management or you'll kill your trans. Goat Rope Garage on Youtube is an excellent resource for all things tuning.

Yes. Definitely. Check out Chris Henry's business, CHMotorsports. Chris has a killer tuning process which involves both the ECM and the transmission. I had it on my 2011 and I'll swear by his work.

Now it sounds like you want to do your own tuning, which is perfectly fine. If you look over Chris's offerings you can get a snapshot of what is possible with a good tune. I'd still recommend his services though.... And he in no way compensates us for the good recommendations :D .

Thursday nights (most) at 7pm central time, Kyle at Goat Rope Garage has a live stream where you can ask him questions. This guy is a treasure of information and will respond live. He also offers full tune support for a fee. If you look at the videos he's published for the last few years, it seems you can kinda learn to do it yourself as well. When you stroke or modify heads or change your cam, you need this stuff...or you can pay someone. Word of warning: a lot of tuners will get you an awesome quarter mile time but not clean up drive-ability.
