Upfitting questions

I have to install some equipment in my 13 this weekend (no lights LOL)...I need to locate a good source in the trunk for fused 12 volts (constant), and ignition sense....I have the single battery optioned vehicle.

Second is I need to get access to the underside of the roof near the rear seat area (almost centered) to install an antenna. I am reusing an existing hole but have to run antenna coax from there to the trunk. Whats the best/easiest way to drop a partial section of the headliner to get access to the underside of the roof? I might even get lucky to find the location of the hole is where the rear seat light is and can just remove that for access.

Any help is appreciated.

well since the battery is in the trunk you could always connect a wire with fuse holder connected directly to the battery positive terminal. There is a small post with a nut on each battery connector for connecting a accessory wire.fyi (Make sure the fuse holder is connected directly/closest to the battery) I would run an extra wire for ignition sense into the fuse panel and use a fuse tap on a fuse that is at +12v when the key is on. The easiest way to lower the rear of the headliner is to remove all the trim that overlaps the headliner. You will probably have to remove the front overhead light panel and the sun visor mounts depending on how flexible the material is. Use gloves before handling the headliner because your fingers will leave marks on the material even if there clean. good luck!

Upfitters do that a lot, removing dome lights to drill the holes for the required equipment, then reinstalling them. It beats the heck out of dropping the headliner. I will say that the headliner is pretty stiff, so if you need much more access, it's probably better to just suck it up and drop the headliner, at least the back half. I know my Varex exhaust system wiring install went easier, and probably quicker, when I just went ahead and pulled the left-side interior trim to run the wires.

Thanks Gene. i was able to get the antenna and cabling installed without dropping the headliner...no on the find power and ignition sense in the trunk.

You don’t have the passenger side battery?

Just curious how you are doing with this? What sort of radio are you installing. I assume a radio, since you were talking about an antenna. I found all the PPV specific tech diagrams online, so following the wiring was pretty easy. There is an ignition sense wire in the console, that you jump to the relay wire that triggers one of the 30 amp relays in the right trunk area. Its pretty easy on a 2014. I have two radios mounted under the package tray, and turn them on remotely with ignition sense from the center console. good luck!
