White squares on steel wheels?

So, the wheels on our '12 PPV have little white squares painted on them. On one, the black paint has peeled a bit, so it's not a square, but it is there on the others. I thought that was something from it's service life in the Great White North, but I see the same square in pictures of others' PPVs.

Does anyone know why they are there?

Do you have a picture of what you are talking about?

Yeah I have them on all 4 of my wheels too. I was also curious what they were for. I'll try post a picture this weekend if nobody else does.

Look at the pictures. There's lead weights, AND white painted squares. No correlation between the two.

Could they be the faded green stickers?

I'll double-check, but I don't think they're stickers, but paint. They may be where the black paint was pulled off when some sticker left the car at 155 MPH, I don't know, but they appear to be paint, to me.

Mystery solved, sort of. They are vinyl stickers. I'm guessing they had something printed on them new, that bleached/washed off?

They're stuck on very-well, I tried to peel one, and just got a corner up, and can't get enough of a grip on it to pull it up.
