The largest B&M cooler is only about $130 and cools a lot better than the factory cooler. It keeps mine between 170 and 200 degrees with a 3800 converter on 90+ degree days while hammering on it pretty much constantly. Mine is still plumbed through the radiator. Temps might actually go lower if I bypass it.

I don't suggest bypassing the in-rad cooler. It helps regulate the trans fluid temps. The sweet spot for transmission fluid on a street driven car is about 180 degrees. External coolers that are not in series with the in-rad cooler can over-cool the fluid, especially in cold climates.

It all depends on the car and its intended usage. In a cold climate, you would probably never want to bypass the radiator. In that case, it actually acts as a fluid heater. For a car with a 3800 converter and close to 500 whp driven in the summer, I doubt there would be a problem. This is a highly debated topic with no right or wrong answer. There are way too many variables between vehicles, climate, usage, etc. The only way to know is to try.

I am going to go aftermarket, it's a $140 for a factory cooler and I can get a better trans cooler for less money. My car had a factory mounted transmission cooler

The lower intake area has a huge area and easy mounting to the actual metal frame crossmember. This keeps it out of the large intake which can be used for a OTR air intake and also means you don't see it as easily.. The factory lines won't just bolt up to that but its not much work to make it happen.
